Is VoiceDub AI Safe? What to Know Before You Upload Your Voice

Short answer: VoiceDub looks like a real service, not a scam. The bigger question is what happens to your voice once you upload it, to VoiceDub or to any AI voice app.

What VoiceDub is

VoiceDub is a website that uses AI to change the voice in a recording. You can turn a song into a "cover" sung in a different voice, pick from thousands of voices made by other users, or train a voice that sounds like you. For a quick clone, it says one clean audio clip is enough.

Is VoiceDub a scam?

There is no sign that it is. At the time of writing, it has a rating of about 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from close to 90 reviews, and website safety checkers have not flagged it for malware or phishing. People who use it mostly praise the sound quality and the customer support.

So if your question is "will this site steal my money or infect my phone?", the evidence says probably not. But that is not the only thing to think about with a voice app.

What happens to your voice

We read VoiceDub's own privacy policy and terms of service so you don't have to. Here is what stands out, in plain language:

  1. Uploads come with a broad license. Its terms say that by uploading content, you give VoiceDub a permanent, worldwide license to use it, and you also let other VoiceDub users access it as far as the service's normal features allow.
  2. The privacy policy is quiet about voice files. The policy, last updated in May 2023, covers account details, payments, devices, and cookies, but it does not say how long uploaded audio or voice models are kept, or whether they are used to improve the AI.
  3. You can ask for your data to be deleted. The policy gives you the right to request deletion of your personal information.
  4. Impersonation is against the rules. The terms ban using the service to impersonate any person, and users must be 18 or older.

To be fair to VoiceDub, wording like this is common across apps where you upload photos, videos, or music. It just matters more when what you upload is your own voice, because a voice is now something that can be copied and misused.

Why your voice is worth protecting

Cloned voices are no longer a future problem. In September 2026, police in Greece broke up a gang that recorded relatives' voices during short phone calls, cloned them with an AI tool, and used them to trick families. Police estimate the gang took more than €1 million.

In the United States, a 72-year-old man in New Hampshire handed $15,000 in cash to a courier after hearing what sounded exactly like his son, crying for help from jail. It was a cloned voice.

Greek police put it simply: recognizing a familiar voice is no longer, on its own, a reliable way to know who is calling.

A 2025 review by Consumer Reports also found that four out of six popular voice cloning companies had no real check that the person uploading a voice had permission to clone it. That is how scammers can clone a voice from a clip taken off social media.

How to use any AI voice app more safely

  1. Only upload your own voice, and never a child's. Never upload a recording of a friend or relative without their clear permission.
  2. Read the terms before you upload. Look for what license you give, how long files are kept, and whether you can delete them.
  3. Check whether your voice model is private. On apps with a shared voice library, make sure a voice trained on you is not visible to other users.
  4. Delete what you no longer need. Remove old voice models and recordings, and use the app's deletion request if there is one.
  5. Prefer apps that ask for proof of consent, such as reading out a short statement in your own voice before cloning.

Protect your family from cloned voice calls

  1. Agree a family safe word that only you and your close family know. A real relative in trouble will know it. A cloned voice will not.
  2. Hang up and call back on the number you already have saved for that person, before you send anything.
  3. Never hand cash or valuables to a courier because of a phone call, however real the voice sounds.
  4. Think about what you post. Long public videos of you talking give scammers plenty to clone.
